Enterprise search has long been confused with compliance and policies for archiving. Information governance strategies reset thinking in this area by establishing clear use cases for accessing information versus those that enable retention. Simon Taylor (CommVault) takes ETM’s Ali Klaver through the different faces of enterprise search.

AK: “The topics of compliance and e-discovery or e-disclosure both speak to effective enterprise search, but it’s a much broader subject. What do you see as the typical requirements for enterprise search, and what type of data is more commonly accessed?"

ST: “Firstly, let’s break the question down into some of the reasons why we hear about enterprise search and then we can go into use cases that probably make more sense. In the context of issues like compliance we often hear about search as a means of auditing records that in turn have to be kept, which is of course the predominate driver around compliance.”
